Abstract

In resource-limited classrooms, effective pronunciation instruction is not only possible but can also be highly engaging using creative materials.

The webinar explores the results of action research in a low-tech context, through practical multisensory strategies, and collaborative approaches that empower teachers to deliver impactful pronunciation practice without relying on advanced technology. Key topics include the use of simple gestures and physical movements to clarify sound production, and the integration of low-cost authentic materials, such as tongue twisters, rhymes, songs, and dialogues — to make learning both meaningful and enjoyable. The session highlights the powerful role of peer feedback in fostering metacognitive awareness and improving pronunciation skills, alongside teacher-led error correction and strategic feedback.

Practical methods for assessing and monitoring student progress without specialized tools will be discussed, as well as common challenges faced in low-resource settings and actionable solutions to overcome them. Finally, some considerations on student perceptions and attitudes toward low-tech methods, emphasize how these insights can inform and enhance instructional practice.

Participants will have the opportunity to leave with a toolkit of adaptable strategies to enrich pronunciation teaching, especially in low-tech and low-resource contexts.

Please note the webinar is free for all to attend, but the certificates of attendance will be sent to IATEFL members only.
